Wolfgang Tillmans ha dado forma a nuestra percepción del mundo como casi ningún otro artista de su generación. En el siguiente volumen, Burg (1998), Tillmans enriquece su temática con una nueva colección de hermosas fotografías hoy icónicas. En truth study center (2005) sus imágenes se condensan en composiciones aún más sutiles que dialogan con obras completamente abstractas. Finalmente, Neue Welt (2012) documenta los viajes de Wolfgang Tillmans alrededor del mundo, desde Londres a Tierra del Fuego, India, Papúa Nueva Guinea, Arabia Saudita y África Central, su mirada siempre curiosa nos guía por las distintas realidades de nuestro planeta: personas y mercados, tecnología y arquitectura; y por último, pero no menos importante, naturaleza y astronomía. Para este volumen, el artista se valió por primera vez de las nuevas posibilidades que ofrece la fotografía digital. Wolfgang Tillmans has shaped our perception of the world like almost no other artist of his generation. Tillmans has created a multitude of iconic works with an unmistakable visual language that has opened new paths and possibilities for photography and contemporary art, from the first portraits of his friends to still lifes, nudes, travel photography, landscapes and skies, including his abstract works. In 2000 he became the first photographer, and the first non-British person, to receive the renowned Turner Prize.
His first volume for TASCHEN (1995) shows the young generation of the 1990s, from the one that Tillmans himself was a member, in clubs, in LGBT Pride Day celebrations, in fashion shows and in his everyday life. His dense and realistic photographs evoke tangible utopias of the community and society and are also important documents of his time. In the next volume, Burg (1998), Tillmans enriches his theme with a new collection of beautiful and iconic photographs. In truth study center (2005) his images are condensed into even more subtle compositions that dialogue with completely abstract works. Finally, Neue Welt (2012) documents Wolfgang Tillmans' travels around the world, from London to Tierra del Fuego, India, Papua New Guinea, Saudi Arabia and Central Africa, his always curious gaze guides us through the different realities of our planet: people and markets, technology and architecture; and last but not least, nature and astronomy. For this volume, the artist made use of the new possibilities offered by digital photography for the first time. That allowed for a density of information and clarity previously unseen in photography. This 40th anniversary TASCHEN publication combines the best of all four books in one volume. Wolfgang Tillmans himself has compiled this edition, partially redesigned it, added some recent work and written a new foreword.
